Dr. Kathy K. Sutton,  EdD, LPC

Dr. Kathy K. Sutton is a licensed professional counselor in Washington, DC. She has a Doctorate of Education in Counseling Psychology from The American School of Professional Psychology, Argosy University, 2011, Master of Education in Special Education from Bowie State University, 2004, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Howard University, 1996. Dr. Sutton has successfully developed, coordinated and managed an agency wide behavior modification program for adjudicated youth populations. Dr. Sutton has taught diverse courses in career development, independent living and life skills development.

Dr. Sutton's approach involves genuine caring, acceptance, and non-judgment. She is a clinician and educator passionate about inspiring individuals to think beyond where they are today and work toward achieving personal, professional and academic goals. Dr. Sutton works from a strength-based, positive, and affirming perspective Applying cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based treatments to adults and adolescents, Dr. Sutton is able to assist with a wide range of issues including behavioral and adjustment problems, emotional issues, anxiety, stress, depression, life crisis, ADHD, negative behavioral patterns, career problems, self-efficacy/self-empowerment, relationship issues among many other things. 

Dr. Sutton’s specialty areas are career counseling, assessment tools and testing for educational and vocational needs, pre/post op weight loss surgery assessment, and lesbian and gay issues. Dr. Sutton participates in professional development training and consultation throughout the year, which helps her remain motivated in helping to improve the quality of life of the men, women and young people she works with. She believes in a holistic approach to mental health and that all components of ones' life are interrelated.
